We called the shop with very short notice, but where treated like old friends. After a very entertaining introduction to the basics of carpet making - including tying a couple of “knots” as well - we went into a showroom where we were introduced to some of the designs and sizes of the carpets they were selling. The team also shared how they and the 400 families making the carpets are certified to ensure proper welfare (kids’ education, Medicare, no child labour etc) for the workers’ family and children. Despite an obvious lack of tourists in the area, we were at no point asked or pressured to buy anything. While this store in itself may not justify the drive to and from Agra, I would say that if you ARE going to Agra, visiting this place is a must!
